Verizon
The Sunshine Solves team recently spearheaded a comprehensive Point-of-Sale (POS) and network hardware rollout for Verizon retail locations. This project required a sophisticated blend of front-end “customer experience” technology and back-end “data security” infrastructure. Our mission was to deploy a lightning-fast, secure, and reliable transactional environment that allows Verizon consultants to assist customers anywhere on the showroom floor without losing connectivity.
Project Challenges
Strict Data Compliance: Navigating the rigorous PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) requirements inherent in a telecommunications environment handling sensitive personal and financial data.
Aesthetic Integration: Maintaining the high-end “clean” look of a Verizon store by concealing all cabling and hardware within minimalist kiosks and modern furniture.
Real-Time Inventory Sync: Ensuring the POS terminals communicated perfectly with internal databases to reflect live inventory of high-value devices (iPhones, Samsung Galaxy, etc.) across multiple locations.
Signal Interference: Managing high-density Wi-Fi and 5G environments where dozens of live demo devices could potentially interfere with the dedicated POS network.
Project Solution
VLAN Segmentation: Implemented advanced network “slicing” to isolate POS transaction data from the public guest Wi-Fi and demo device networks, ensuring maximum security and bandwidth for sales.
Hidden Infrastructure Design: Utilized micro-form-factor PCs and custom under-counter mounting brackets to keep the workspace clutter-free while providing easy access for future technician maintenance.
Fiber-Backbone Optimization: Upgraded in-store switching to 10Gbps-capable hardware to ensure that activation processes and software updates for customer phones happen instantaneously.
Redundant Failover Systems: Configured secondary LTE/5G cellular failover modules within the store’s routers, so the POS system remains online and able to process payments even if the primary fiber line is interrupted.
Precision Peripheral Calibration: Conducted exhaustive stress tests on biometrics, tablet-based signature pads, and thermal printers to ensure a seamless “paperless” checkout experience for the end-user.
